The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called for an independent audit of all Electoral Commission systems and databases.
He expressed concern over discrepancies found between Ghana’s voter register and reports from the Electoral Commission after the official presidential nomination filing at the EC headquarters on behalf of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
The NDC official cited instances where voters were unknowingly transferred to different polling stations, which not only disrupted the smooth running of the electoral process but also raised concerns about the credibility of the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Nketiah added that the NDC has reached out to development partners to carry out this audit, as they will not rely on the government, which may lack the necessary funding.
“We have appealed to our development partners; we already know that, for a HIPC country, the easiest response is that there is no funding to undertake the audit. They are more than willing to assist, as long as the Electoral Commission is also willing. If they have nothing to hide, this should be easy for them to comply with.” he stated.
