Ashanti Region will not support NPP in the upcoming December polls – Kojo Bonsu

Former Kumasi Mayor, Michael Kojo Bonsu has declared that the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will not support the party in the upcoming December polls.

According to Kojo Bonsu, the NPP government has failed to fulfill numerous promises made to the region’s residents during previous campaigns. Despite the region’s historical loyalty to the party, the NPP’s unfulfilled commitments have led to widespread disillusionment.

He highlighted the region’s lack of development, despite being a key NPP base. This perceived neglect has galvanized the people to withhold their support, serving as a stark reminder to the NPP that power lies with the electorate.

Interestingly, this statement is in contrast to the NPP’s own target for the Ashanti Region. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to secure 85% of votes in the region. Additionally, Opoku Prempeh has relocated the presidential campaign to the Ashanti Region to court support for Bawumia. It remains to be seen how these efforts will impact the region’s voting decision.

The potential shift from the NPP in the Ashanti Region could have significant implications for the party’s overall performance in the December polls.
