The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his dismay at the fervent desire of many to become Members of Parliament, despite the constant ridicule and verbal abuse directed at parliamentarians.

During a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi as part of his Ashanti Regional tour, the Asantehene wondered aloud what drives people to fervently seek a position that is often met with scorn and derision.

He cautioned that some individuals are willing to resort to insults and physical violence to secure a seat in Parliament, and urged politicians to refrain from such behavior as the country approaches elections. He emphasized the need for civility and respectful discourse in the political sphere.
