Newly appointed head coach of Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko, Prosper Nartey Ogum has been rated as the best local coach in Ghana, according to the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the DataBank Group, Kojo Addae-Mensah.
His statement comes in the wake of Prosper Nartey Ogum’s second stint with the Porcupine Warriors after he was dismissed despite signing a two-year contract with the club in 2022.
Initially, Ogum guided the Porcupine Warriors to victory in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, clinching the league title in his debut season.
Seydou Zerbo, a Burkinabe trainer, was brought in as Ogum’s replacement before the commencement of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season. Nonetheless, Zerbo was relieved of his duties mid-season following a loss to Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Abdul Gazale, the assistant coach, was named as the interim coach, leading the team to a fourth-place finish with 52 points.
Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s HappySports show with Ohene Bampioe Brenya, Kojo Addae-Mensah highlighted the importance of Ogum’s second stint with Asante Kotoko empathizing that there isn’t any better coach to lead the team.

He however bemoaned the quality of local coaches in the country reiterating the comments of the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E.S. Okraku during the Association’s 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi.
Kurt asserted that the country’s biggest problems are its coaches and referees.
However, Addae-Mensah believes Asante Kotoko’s Ogum is on a different level compared to other coaches in Ghana.
Ogum has begun preseason training with the team as the new Ghana Premier League season approaches.
The new 2023/24 season is scheduled to kick off in September.
