
On February 21, 2025, Daniel Baidoo assaulted journalists documenting the environmental damage caused by mining activities at Adumanya, near Asankran Breman in Ghana’s Western Region.
Baidoo forcefully confiscated equipment, including cameras and phones, demanding the deletion of captured footage.
Following his arrest by the Western Central Regional Police Command, Baidoo faced trial.
The Asankragwa District Court found him guilty, sentencing him to a fine of GH₵3,600 or one-year prison term with hard labour.
The seized items, which include Panasonic Lumix camera and an iPhone, were retrieved by the police and returned to the media team, ensuring the protection of their work.
This case sheds light on the ongoing risks faced by journalists in the pursuit of truthful reporting.
