The Ghana Police Service has accused Arise Ghana demonstrators of attacking them and hurting 12 of its officers.
According to a statement from the administration of the service, the demonstrators pelted its officers with stones at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where the demonstrators had converged for the protest.
The protest, which began earlier on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, was expected to highlight the hardships under the Akufo-Addo government.
However, it escalated and turned violent following disagreements between organizers of the demonstration and the police over acceptable routes for the protest march.
In the ensuing melee, some police officers suffered various degrees of injuries leaving some police vehicles vandalised.
Attached is a full statement from the police signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Chief Supt. Grace Ansah-Akrofi.
