The Trump campaign has released a statement saying it has filed a lawsuit in Michigan asking the state to halt counting until it receives “meaningful access” to observe the opening of ballots and the counting process.
CNN teams in Michigan have not seen evidence that the suit has actually been filed but continue to check.
While the Trump campaign has said that lawsuit has been filed in the Michigan Court of Claims, docket clerk for the Court of Claims, Morgan Adams, told CNN that the court has not received the filing.
Recount possible but not “inevitable,” Pennsylvania secretary of state says.
Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar told CNN on Wednesday that the state could end up in a recount situation once all the ballots are counted, but it’s not “inevitable.”
“I don’t think it’s inevitable. We are definitely tracking it,” Boockvar told CNN’s Erin Burnett.
President Trump currently leads former Vice President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania by about 458,915 votes with about 80% of the vote reported.
“In Pennsylvania there’s an automatic recount if the race is within 0.5 percent difference between the winner and the person in second. So in 2016, I believe the final results were 0.7 percent, so there was no automatic recount. Today remains to be seen,” she said.
“I think we’ll know more by the end of the day where we see where we are,” Boockvar added.
The outcome of the US presidential election is on a knife edge, with Donald Trump and his rival Joe Biden neck and neck in key swing states.
No candidate can credibly claim to have won as yet, and both campaigns said they had potential paths to victory.
Mr Biden’s campaign said the race was “moving to a conclusion in our favour”.
But Mr Trump, a Republican, claimed to have won and vowed to launch a Supreme Court challenge, without providing evidence of fraud.
Several key states are expected to finish counting by the end of Wednesday but the election may not be decided for days.
The Biden campaign said it expected to win because several states would be called for them on Wednesday or Thursday, but the Trump campaign said it was confident that the maths was in its favour.
The US is on course for the highest electoral turnout in a century. More than 100 million people cast their ballots in early voting before election day, and tens of millions more added their vote on Tuesday.
Biden takes the lead in Wisconsin
Results from Milwaukee have flipped Wisconsin to Joe Biden, who has a lead in the state right now, CNN’s Phil Mattingly says.
Earlier, the city of Milwaukee’s absentee ballot information was delivered with a police escort, CNN’s Ryan Young reported.
“When they have those three officers walking with them, you understand the importance of the event,” Young told CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
The election is far from over with millions of votes still outstanding in key states, including in battleground Wisconsin.

Twitter labels an early Wednesday morning tweet from Trump as “disputed”

Twitter placed a “disputed” label on a tweet sent just minutes ago by President Trump in which he baselessly claimed, “We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election.”
“Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about how to participate in an election or another civic process,” the Twitter label reads.
Twitter has also restricted how the tweet can be shared. The same post was also posted to the President’s Facebook page.
In statement, Twitter said, “We placed a warning on a Tweet from @realDonaldTrump for making a potentially misleading claim about an election. This action is in line with our Civic Integrity Policy.”
The same post was also posted to the President’s Facebook page. CNN has reached out to Facebook for comment.
