All retail shops and commerce outlets have been obliged to close as part of efforts by the Ga Traditional Council to pay last respects to the late Ga Manye Paramount Queen of the Ga State, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.
Naa Dedei Omaedru III, crowned queen mother in the year 1963 at the age of 29, was known to be an affable person and became a nationwide luminary on account of her philanthropic acts of giving to the poor and catering for the needs of the physically disabled. Naa Dedei Omaedru, 88, passed away at her Dansoman residence, surrounded by her loved ones, on 26 December 2022.
Activities for the funeral rites of the late Queen mother commenced on Thursday, October 26, 2023, with today Saturday October 28, 2023 marked as a day for the final funeral rites at the Ga Mantse palace in North Kaneshie in Accra.
With the exception of pharmacy shops and food vendors allowed to operate, the streets of Accra have been cleared for the Asafo Companies to parade, amid the sound shots into the sky with muskets.
