The Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Charles Amofa has disclosed that the Ministry will soon undertake major renovation works on the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium in the Northern Region.
The stadium, which is currently serving as home grounds for Real Tamale United and Tamale City in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season, will receive attention from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Charles Ampofa confirmed this to Happy Sports after numerous reports on the poor state of facilities in the Stadium.
The Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, during a visit to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to assess its challenges, officially announced that the Sports Stadium will soon undergo major renovation and maintenance works to ensure its proper condition for sporting activities.
Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Charles Amofa acknowledged that it is fair the Aliu Mahama Stadium also undergoes major renovation works so that it matches the standards of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium.
He also indicated that the Ministry will be looking to partner with other corporate companies so that a state-of-the-art hotel facility can be constructed to help the National Sports Authority(NSA) also earn revenue.
The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, which requires major renovation every ten years, has suffered a lack of maintenance, resulting in a deplorable state. The VVIP section’s roof, toilet facilities, and popular stands are all in need of repair. Consequently, the Confederation of African Football and the Federation of International Football Association have consistently rejected hosting international matches at the facility.
