Alidu Seidu out for season following ACL injury

Ghanaian international and Rennes defender Alidu Seidu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Rennes’ Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Sunday.

The injury occurred just 11 minutes into the match when Seidu landed awkwardly after contesting an aerial duel. Medical staff rushed to assist the right-back, spending nearly five minutes treating him on the pitch. Unfortunately, he was unable to continue and was substituted, with Mikayil Faye coming on to replace him.

This devastating news comes shortly after another Ghanaian player, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, also sustained an ACL injury, compounding the woes for Ghanaian football.

Rennes manager Jorge Sampaoli confirmed that further medical examinations were conducted following their narrow 1-0 defeat. The results revealed the full extent of Seidu’s injury, prematurely ending his season.

Seidu’s absence is a significant setback for Ghana’s Black Stars, where the defender has been a key figure in recent matches. His injury also means he will be unavailable for Ghana’s upcoming 2025 World Cup qualifiers, as the team looks to recover from missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
