The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalized.
This marks the second instance of damage to the monument, which was erected to honor the former president’s contributions during his tenure.
The first act of vandalism occurred on December 16, 2024, when unidentified individuals damaged the statue’s leg. Although authorities quickly repaired it, no arrests were made, and the motives behind the incident remain unknown.
The latest attack, which left the statue entirely toppled, comes less than a week after Akufo-Addo completed his term as president.
The statue, unveiled during Akufo-Addo’s presidency, was intended to symbolize his administration’s dedication to improving healthcare and infrastructure in the Western Region. Its location near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital highlighted government initiatives to enhance access to medical care and resources in underserved communities.
