The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed strong disapproval over President Akufo-Addo’s remarks on Founders’ Day. The President’s assertion that Ghana’s independence was a collective effort and should not be attributed to a single individual has sparked outrage within the party, which is dedicated to the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP takes issue with the President’s rejection of Nkrumah’s singular role in founding the nation, viewing it as a misrepresentation of history.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has lambasted President Akufo-Addo’s Founders’ Day remarks as an “unfortunate gaffe”, criticizing his choice of words on a day meant to honor the nation’s founder. In a press release issued on August 4, signed by Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, chairperson of the party’s Independent Committee, the CPP argued that the President should have been more mindful of his language. The party also cautioned the government, in its final months of tenure, to focus on leaving a lasting legacy rather than continually attempting to diminish the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a leader deeply revered by Ghanaians and Africans alike.
According to the statement, the President’s remarks are seen as a continuation of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) pattern of promoting historical inaccuracies.
