President Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his final address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, as his term in office nears its conclusion.
The 79th session of the UNGA will be held at the UN headquarters in New York City from September 21 to 27, 2024.
The theme for this year’s General Assembly is, “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.”
As part of his week-long itinerary, President Akufo-Addo will attend the opening ceremony of the “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow” and address its plenary session on Sunday, September 22.
In addition, the President will hold bilateral meetings with leaders, including the President of Finland, the Crown Prince of Kuwait, and the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis. He will also meet with Ghanaian international civil servants working at the United Nations.
On Monday, September 23, Akufo-Addo will take part in a special event to honor victims of slavery at the Ark of Return, located at the UN headquarters, and will pay a courtesy visit to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
