Akufo-Addo forms 5-member ministerial committee to engage stakeholders on galamsey

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has established a five-member ad hoc ministerial committee to engage stakeholders and evaluate the government’s efforts in tackling illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. The issue of galamsey has become increasingly problematic, with various unions and associations calling on the president to declare a state of emergency to address the crisis more effectively.

In a notice released on Friday, September 13, Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar announced that National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah will chair the committee, supported by four other ministers. “At the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a five-member ad hoc ministerial committee has been established to engage stakeholders and review the government’s efforts in combating illegal mining in Ghana. The committee is chaired by the National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, with the following members:”

  1. Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources
  2. Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, Minister for Defense
  3. Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions
  4. Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar, Minister for Information.
