Eastern Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Danquah has mentioned that Akans are the cause of Ghana’s problems.
According to him, Akans have turned a blind eye to the wrongdoings happening under the watch of the President Akufo-Addo led administration.
He argued that this is the case because Akans predominantly align with, and are sympathizers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to a group of people on a campaign trail, Kojo Danquah said, “We the Akans we are the problem of this country. Sorry if anybody is an Akan here. I am sorry. If anybody is an Akan here, but I am an Akan, the more reason why I have always said that Akans are the problem of this country.”
“Look if it was another government in power, and this embezzlement had happened, this country would’ve broken lose,” he added.
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, also shared similar sentiments. At a campaign event in Accra over the weekend, John Dramani Mahama stated that there would have been chaos in Ghana if the unprecedented levels of corruption presided over by the President Akufo-Addo government had taken place under his watch.
These comments come on the back of alledged unprecedented levels of corruption recorded under President Akufo-Addo. Government appointees and ministers fingered in these corruption related cases have in one way or the other been cleared, regardless of the strong evidence against them.
