Airport West Hotel and Sonotech launch Pinktober Free Breast Cancer Screening and Educational Talk

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month underway, Airport West Hotel and Sonotech Ghana have joined forces to offer a screening programme for Ghanaian women.

The #PINKTOBER Free Breast Screening and Educational Talk campaign provides breast cancer education and screening to women in some communities within Accra.

Elisabeth Melissa Akosa, Administrator for Airport West Hotel and Coordinator for the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign explained that the activation has been going on for the past five years.

“Every year we have the breasf Cancer screening because healthcare provision is one of the key pillars of our community engagement strategy and its been going on for 5 years. We partnered Sonotech to help raise awareness about the dangers of breast cancer among women. We also want women to understand the risk factors, symptoms, treatment options available so that they screen because early detection is the key to beating breast cancer. We also had a networking session for participants from other organisations to know themselves and connect,” she said.

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that at 2.26 million, there were more new cases of breast cancer worldwide in 2020 than any other type of cancer. The WHO’s Globocan 2020 study found that breast cancer was also the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Ghana with more than 4,400 new cases. This was 18.7% of all cancer diagnoses.
