The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has trained visually-impaired voters in the Asunafo North Municipal on the proper use of tactile jackets for the upcoming December polls.
The jacket is a voting equipment provided by the EC to aid visually-impaired voters to cast their ballot by identifying their preferred candidates when they insert the ballot paper into the jacket.
Speaking to the media, on the sidelines of the training workshop, the Goaso Municipal Director of the EC, Gideon Yeboah, said: “This year’s election is special, we’ve assured them of the availability of the tactile ballot to enable them cast their votes.”
“We’ve also advised them to go to their various centres with their guides to assist them. ” he said
The Ahafo Regional Secretary of the Ghana Blind Union, Atibilla Kwaku said members were very grateful for the training and urged the Electoral Commission to make sure that the tactile jackets will be available in all the polling centers across the region to ensure easy voting processes for members of the Ghana Blind Union.
