Agric Ministry set to distribute food grants to over 800,000 farmers from October 10, Minister Reveals

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong has revealed that beginning October 10, 2024, the Food and Agriculture Ministry will distribute food grants to over 800,000 farmers in eight (8) most affected regions in the country.

He says, his outfit has outlined some key interventions to support farmers and stabilize the country’s food system after the recent dry spell, such as the distribution of 118,000 metric tons of fertilizers and over 5,000 metric tons of seeds to small holder farmers across the country.

Speaking at the Meet the Press series on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at the Ministry of Information on steps the government is taking to address the effects of the dry spell, Bryan Acheampong revealed that government has secured $160 million to support farmers and ensure food security in the country.

“On October 10, we are starting the food grant to the 8 regions who have been affected to redeem our promise to farmers, each farmer is entitled to a bag of rice (25 Kg) and maize (100kg)”.

He said, he will ensure that all input and grant distributions to farmers will be tracked on the Ghana Agriculture and Agribusiness Platform (GhAAP) to ensure transparency.
