The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has recommended the retention of Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, as the next leader of the NPP caucus in the nineth Parliament, beginning January 7, 2025.
He said the current Leader of Government Business was not only “strong” but had the right “experience and longevity” to champion the interests of the caucus and the nation as a whole in the next Parliament.
In his view, given the current tensed political landscape, the Majority Caucus needs a leader who could be combative to face-off the incoming Majority Caucus from 2025.
“I strongly believe in longevity and experience; from our own actions and inaction you can tell that when Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was the Minority Leader Majority Leader, he stood out very clearly but it did not happen by accident. He started as a chief grip and grew up to become a leader as the longevity brings experience and clarity. I won’t recommend any other”
Speaking to the press in Parliament today, the outgoing MP for Bekwai said “So, I would not support any request for a new person to be brought into the picture now, let Afenyo-Markin continue.
