Ghanaians are distressed about floods caused by a heavy rains on Friday, September 22, 2023.
The rains which started around 2:45pm, late afternoon began with mild showers and have caused a lot of damage to property within certain parts of the capital city after minutes of intense rain.
Captured on video are areas like Teshie-Nungua Estate, Ashaiman, the Accra-Tema motorway area, Shiashie and Madina have all been heavily flooded.
Affected by the downpour also was the popular China Mall at the Ashaiman overhead, disrupting trading activities within the said vicinity and has resulted in the damage of valuable equipment.
Floods in Ghana have become a national concern as a result of bad roads and poor drainage systems, the issue of floods joins a list of other pressing issues plaguing the nation, including the high cost of living, rampant abuse of power, state capture, throttling of press freedom and what many perceive as callous governance.
The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, organized by the Democracy Hub, a group of young activists, have rallied Ghanaians from far and wide to express their woes regarding pressing economic challenges and matters plaguing the nation Ghana.
