The absence of Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, at the recent unveiling ceremony of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has ignited widespread speculation and rumors of a perceived feud between the two political figures. The event, held at Manhyia and the jubilee park in Kumasi, was a significant moment for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Dr. Prempeh was introduced as the running mate to the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

The ceremony, attended by numerous party stalwarts, dignitaries, and enthusiastic supporters, was marked by the conspicuous absence of Mr. Osei-Mensah, who reportedly embarked on a trip to China two days to the event. His absence raised eyebrows, especially given the importance of the event and his influential position within the region.

Sources close to the NPP have hinted at an underlying tension between Mr. Osei-Mensah and Dr. Prempeh, believed to stem from differing political ambitions and visions for the party’s future. Although both parties have publicly maintained a façade of unity, the timing of the minister’s trip has fueled rumors that their relationship may be strained.

Speaking to the press, an anonymous party insider stated, “The absence of Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah at such a pivotal event is indeed puzzling. While there is no official reason for his trip to China, many within the party are questioning whether there might be more to the story.”

Despite the swirling rumors, Dr. Prempeh and other party leaders have focused on rallying support for the upcoming general election, emphasizing the NPP’s commitment to development and progress.

In a brief statement, Dr. Prempeh expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support at the ceremony and reiterated his commitment to working alongside Dr. Bawumia to lead Ghana towards greater prosperity. “Our unity and shared vision for the future are what drive us forward. We remain focused on our goals and the betterment of our nation,” he said.

As the NPP gears up for a rigorous election campaign, the spotlight on internal dynamics within the party is likely to intensify. Observers and analysts will be watching closely to see how the relationship between key figures evolves and what impact it may have on the party’s performance in the elections this year.
