Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has vowed that no government-owned property in Benin will be sold under his leadership, as efforts are being made to renovate and restore Ghana’s diplomatic facilities.
During a working visit to Benin, Ablakwa inspected several properties acquired by the Ghanaian government in 1999.
One of these properties, abandoned since 2019 due to fire damage to its electricity meter, remains unoccupied.
Of the six properties owned by Ghana in Benin, only one remains unused. However, the Minister expressed concern over structural defects in some recently acquired facilities, forcing mission staff to rent private accommodations at high costs.
He assured that renovation and, where necessary, reconstruction efforts would be undertaken to address these issues, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding national assets.
“No property will be sold under my watch,” he said.
