Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dismissed circulating rumors about the health of Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, assuring Ghanaians that she is recovering well and will soon resume her official duties.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on March 28, 2025, following an engagement in her official capacity.
After initial treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, she traveled abroad for further medical care.
However, false reports suggesting her passing sparked concern among Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
Speaking at an event in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, April 6, Ablakwa expressed gratitude for the prayers and support from the public, which he believes contributed to her recovery.
“I also want to assure that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers worked, prayers from all of us, Ghanaians at home and abroad, have really worked”, he assured.
Ablakwa emphasized that he had personally been in touch with the Vice President and urged the public to disregard misinformation.
“I have heard from her, so I know what I am talking about, and she’s doing well”.
The Foreign Affairs Minister condemned the spread of what he called “vicious and unGhanaian evil propaganda” about Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health and expressed confidence in her ability to continue inspiring women and young girls across the nation.
He added that, “Very soon, she is going to return to her duties, serving Ghana, making all of you proud and particularly inspiring our young girls, our daughters, to know that there is nothing our women cannot achieve—that women are as good as men and that what men can do, women can also do and do it better”.
