Kofi Owusu Hene widely known as Kofi Kapito, the CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency didn’t mince words when he addressed what he sees as a deep-seated issue within the Ghanaian society – a lack of truth.
In a candid and exclusive interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s, Happy morning show, Kofi Kapito argued that the foundation of Ghana’s problems lies in the pervasive culture of deception that starts from the very fabric of society.
“A country without truth suffers and makes God’s efforts in vain. No one is bold to speak out the truth, from parents, pastors, politicians, and our leaders,” he shared.
He pointed out instances where individuals resort to dishonesty, even in simple matters like pretending to be absent when someone comes to visit. According to Kapito, this culture of deceit has permeated every facet of Ghanaian life, leading to a breakdown of trust and a compromised social fabric.
Kofi Kapito did not restrict his criticism to societal issues alone; he extended it to Ghana’s sporting sector. He connected the dots between the lack of truth and the embarrassing exit of the Black Stars from the ongoing AFCON 2024.
The Black Stars, accumulating only 2 points from games against Egypt and Mozambique, suffered a loss to Cape Verde, leading to their premature exit from the tournament.
Kofi Kapito clarified that he does not attribute the country’s economic challenges solely to this culture of deception but insists that it plays a significant role in exacerbating the nation’s woes.
He urged Ghanaians to confront the truth head-on, as he believes this is the first step towards a brighter future.
