The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has applauded the Electoral Commission (EC) for undertaking a fruitful and seamless compilation of the new voters’ register, especially at a time where the country is battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his fifteenth address to the nation on measures taken to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the President said, “The Electoral Commission has successfully completed the compilation of the new voter register ahead of the 2020 general election. On behalf of the people of Ghana, I congratulate warmly, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Jean Mensa, her two deputies, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Mr. Samuel Tetteh and the entire Commission for their efficient, safe and transparent nature of the registration exercise”.
The President expressed his joy over the orderly and safe conduct of the registration exercise amidst the fear mongering of the exercise leading to a surge in COVID-19 cases and related deaths in the country.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, these concerns were genuine because of the complexities surrounding the registration exercise but that did not stop Ghanaians from going out to register.
“Ghanaians did their civic duty, by going out to register, having found that the process was overwhelmingly orderly, peaceful and safe,” he stated.
