Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, could face the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) after opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, filed a criminal complaint against him.
This follows alleged threats by the New Patriotic Party lawmaker during an interview on Asempa FM, a local radio station in Accra.
“While speaking in the Twi language on the said programme, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong stated among other things that, if our client does proceed with his advocacy on national issues in a particular manner, he shall in a matter of three seconds organize his thugs to beat and or finish our client mercilessly”, part of the complaint widely shared online read.
The NDC communicator also cited the killing of a top investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale as part of his decision to file the complaint, adding that he felt disturbed by the MP’s comments.
“This will avert a possible repeat of what happened to the late Ahmed Suale when his life was threatened by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong on that very ‘Ekosi sen’ platform and other media platforms”, the report which was filed on Thursday, August 6, stated.
Mr. Gyamfi wants the CID to investigate the conduct of Mr. Agyapong in accordance with the Criminal Offenses Act of Ghana (Act 1960).
The CID is yet to make any official comment on the matter as the letter indicated that it has confirmed receipt of the complaint.
