In the build-up to the 2020 general elections, Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) comprising of e.TV Ghana, Happy FM and Y FM, is prepared to give viewers and listeners the most comprehensive coverage on events relating to the elections.
As part of this initiative, Happy 98.9 FM has begun a session on the Happy Morning Show dubbed the ‘Editor’s Take’.
The ‘Editor’s Take’ is a segment which provides an objective analysis of various issues of national interest from the perspective of editors and media personnel with an in-depth understanding of issues.
So far, the segment has touched on issues such as the delay of manifestos by political parties, the strength and weaknesses of political parties’ campaign teams, among others.
On today’s edition of the ‘Editor’s Take’, Andy Kankam of the Informer Newspaper and Jeffery De-Graft Johnson who is the editor of the New Publisher newspaper discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the campaign teams of the major political parties in Ghana.
Andy Kankam, speaking on the campaign team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed that the opposition NDC must focus on the “effectiveness of the team” rather than the number of persons in the NDC campaign team.
“If you want to unseat the party of the day, you need some policy alternatives. The number of people in the NDC campaign team is twenty-six (26). Numbers don’t really matter. It is about the effectiveness of the team”.
Andy Kankam revealed that some people had the fear that the NDC’s campaign team might collapse considering that Prof Alabi, the National Campaign Manager of the NDC challenged John Mahama in the presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) last year. He motioned that regardless of the rumour, the party can only survive if there is a good relationship between the campaign manager and flag bearer.
Editor of the New Publisher newspaper, Jeffery De-Graft Johnson on his part, noted that even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had the leader of the 2016 winning team, Mac Manu on their team, they needed to be watchful of the NDC.
“The NDC campaign team is very strong. I am sure that depending on where they are now; being in opposition, they are leaving no stone unturned. They have to put their best foot forward in order to win the 2020 elections. Considering the crop of people they have outlined it means that the NPP will definitely have to sit up”, he said.
The ‘Editor’s Take’ segment airs every Monday morning on the Happy Morning Show (HMS) on Happy98.9FM.
