Akesse Brempong, a Ghanaian Gospel musician, has asserted that Ghanaians are not supportive of their art as compared to other African countries and their own arts.
He made this assertion during an interview with DJ Advicer on the Ayekoo After Drive which airs on Happy 98.9fm.
Akesse revealed that he has done shows in Nigeria and South Africa and the support from the people was simply overwhelming.
“The thing about Nigerians is that they cherish their language. They would rather you sing a Nigerian song to them than coming to sing an English song so you have to find a way of connecting with them first. You have to give them what they’re familiar with before you delve into what they’re not familiar with”.
According to him, Nigerians are so in love with their own art, so much that to break through there, you have to do it with the help of a Nigerian artiste.
The musician insinuated, however, that this is not the same with Ghanaians because they do not have that much support for their own acts.
