Ghana’s all-time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan scored his 50th international goal exactly three years today in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Ghana thumped Ethiopia 5-0 in that Group F qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi with Gyan scoring the first goal of the game.
The 31-year-old, who made his debut against Somalia in 2003 at same venue when he came on for Isaac Boakye in a World Cup qualifier, headed a tailor-measured cross by the 10th minute, as it took a slight deflection off an Ethiopian defender.
It took Asamoah Gyan 587 days (84 weeks or approx 19 months) to score a goal for Ghana since his brace vs Mauritius on June 14, 2015.
Gyan has become the first Ghanaian player to achieve this feat and the fifth player in Africa aside Godfrey Chitalu, Hossam Hassan, Samuel Oto’o and Didier Drogba.
