Newly appointed Ghana Football Association (GFA) Referees Manager, retired referee Alexander Kotey, says he was confident about getting the job.
Alex Kotey beat off competition from referee Thomas Attifu and CM Astatsa for the top job.
The appointment of the Referees Manager by the GFA General Secretary is in accordance with Article 44 (k) of the GFA Statutes 2019.
Alex Kotey was named as the GFA Referees Manager following a rigorous recruitment process by the Association.
Speaking on his appointment with Ghana’s number One Sports Station, Happy 98.9FM, he said, “There was no doubt in my mind that I was qualified for the job. Qualification is one aspect and experience is another. The qualification wasn’t a standing block for me when I applied even though the others had a Masters degree”.

He stated that the refereeing body should come together and work together to achieve the needed success.
“The issue of unity is very important. We must all come together and unite to able to work on one common ground”.
Alex Kotey, a 2006 SWAG (Sports Writers Association of Ghana) Referee of the Year, has worked as a Referees Instructor, Referee Assessor and also a Match Commissioner.
The Referees Manager will head the Refereeing Department of the GFA and shall report to the General Secretary.
