DISSOLUTION OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS ( B/A UNITED FC)

Due to recent developments in the club, in my capacity as the Life Patron of B/A United FC, I hereby dissolve the Board of Directors of the Club.

This decision has come about as the result of the following;

  1. That the Board of Directors have deviated and arrogated to themselves power that were not conferred on them. The Board was formed primarily to source funds, monitor the funds so sourced and advise the Management. The Board therefore, cannot dissolve the management of the Club without reference to me, the Life Patron of the Club who appointed it. At best, they could have recommended the dissolution of the Management to me.
  2. That no minutes of the Board have been communicated to me for my consideration.
  3. That my investigations have revealed that only few members of the Board of 18 took the decision to dissolve the current Management. The point is , the number did not constitute a quorum to take important and decisive decision for the club.
  4. That in their deliberations, culminating in the dismissal of the current management, the Board did not invite the Executive Chairman of the Club who is an automatic member of the Board to their meetings.
  5. That some of those who have been appointed to form the Interim Management Committee are part of the Board and the so called “Concerned” Supporters who have been calling or agitating for the removal of the Executive Chairman. This constitutes conflict of interest and brings to the fore hidden motive which should not be tolerated.

Consequently no member(s) of the Board can conduct business on behalf of the Club.

For peace and progress to prevail, the current Chairman, in the person of Mr. Kingsley Osei-Bonsu , affectionately dubbed “Lord Zico” and his management team have been given two more years to continue their marvellous work.

At the appropriate time, a new Board may be appointed to support the current management.

On this day 5 January 2007 (Exactly 13 years ago today) Former Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien won the 2006 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

In a live public vote , Essien received nearly twice as many votes as Ahly and Egypt playmaker Mohamed Aboutrika and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba.

For the first time in the history of the prize, the winner was decided live during the BBC World Service’s flagship African sports programme Fast Track .

The BBC award took into account the football calendar from January to December 2006 and includes domestic leagues, both the Uefa and Caf Champions League tournaments.

The African Nations Cup, the World Cup and the World Club Cup were also included within this period.

On this day 5 January 1971 (Exactly 49 years ago today) Body of US heavyweight Charles “Sonny” Liston (36) was found; he had been dead for an estimated 6 days

Liston was found dead by his wife, Geraldine, in their Las Vegas home on returning home from a two-week trip, Geraldine had smelled a foul odor emanating from the main bedroom and on entering saw Sonny slumped up against the bed, a broken foot bench on the floor.

Authorities theorized that he was undressing for bed when he fell over backward with such force that he broke the rail of the bench. Geraldine called Sonny’s attorney and his doctor, but did not notify the police until two to three hours later.

Sergeant Dennis Caputo of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department was one of the first officers on the scene. Caputo found a quarter-ounce of heroin in a balloon in the kitchen and a half-ounce of marijuana in Liston’s pants pocket, but no syringes or needles.

Some found it suspicious that authorities could not locate any drug paraphernalia that Liston presumably would have needed to inject the fatal dose, such as a spoon to cook the heroin or a tourniquet to wrap around his arm.

However, former Las Vegas police sergeant Gary Beckwith said, “It wasn’t uncommon for family members in these cases to go through and tidy up…to save family embarrassment.”

Following an investigation, Las Vegas police concluded that there were no signs of foul play and declared Liston’s death a heroin overdose. “It was common knowledge that Sonny was a heroin addict”, said Caputo.

The date of death listed on his death certificate is December 30, 1970, which police estimated by judging the number of milk bottles and newspapers around the front door of the property.
