The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, has promised a crime-free country before, during and after the Christmas festivities.
To demonstrate his commitment, the Ghana Police Service has deployed hundreds of police personnel throughout the country to battle crime before, during and after the yuletide.
The IGP revealed this on in an interview on an Accra Based radio station [Asempa], Tuesday after launching ‘Operation Father Christmas’ in Accra.
The campaign, he noted, is to clampdown on criminals who step up their activities and attack members of the public during the Christmas festivities.
Mr Oppong-Boanuh said more personnel would be deployed to densely populated areas such as shopping malls, recreational and entertainment centres, beaches and market centres.
The IGP stressed that the ‘Operation Father Christmas’ will bring the Police closer to the public and ensure that people celebrate the festive season free from fear of crime and unruly behaviours.
Mr Oppong-Boanuh underscored the need for the public to take personal security more seriously even with police’ assurance.
The IGP commended the officers for their commitment and dedication to duty and assured them that a lot had been done to address their concerns.
