The Minister of Education, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on behalf of the Government of Ghana has expressed gratitude to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for throwing its weight behind the Year of Return project.
He was speaking as Ghana’s representative and leader of a delegation at the UNESCO executive board 207th session in Paris, France.
“It is worth mentioning, that, His Excellency the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declared 2019 as the ‘Year of Return’. We are grateful to UNESCO and partners for the support received in the celebration of the 2019 Year of Return in Ghana”, he said.
The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major landmark marketing campaign targeting the African – American and Diaspora Market to mark 400 years of the first enslaved African arriving in Jamestown Virginia.
Activities under the campaign included its launch, a Tour of Ghana, Back2Africa Festival and upcoming programs such as Kiddafest, Roots Reggae Festival and Gold Coast Experience.
