Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, has said that Nigerian Security Agencies are deliberately opening up their prison gates to allow Nigerian criminals cross boarders into Ghana.
“This has resulted in the increasing number of crime related issues in Ghana mostly perpetuated by Nigerians” he added.
Allottey Jacobs made the allegations on a local radio station on Wednesday, June 19 in the wake of recent development on cases of kidnapping and abduction in Ghana.
He espoused need for strengthened boarder controls by Ghana highlighting weak documentary inspection and describing entry checks as porous.
“Anybody at all can just walk in and out of the country without our Immigration guys asking for their documents”.
Allotey Jacobs therefore has called on the Ghana Immigration Service to sit up on ensuring that relevant documentary checks are carried out prior to admitting other nationals into the country.
This he believed will make systems unattractive to potential criminals hence the prevention of established networks to aid crime.
In a related development, The Nigerian high commissioner, Ambassador Micheal Olufemi Abikoye has stated that most Nigerians engaged in crime in Ghana are illegal migrants whose presence in Ghana is unofficial hence not known to the Nigerian high commission.
