All the failed flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have pledged to dissolve their campaign teams to throw their weight behind John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Mahama emerged with a 95.23 per cent win in the presidential primary held on Saturday, February 23.
A meeting between him and the six losers under the aegis of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party on Thursday concluded that “aspirants will be fully and collectively involved in all campaign activities leading to the 2020 elections”.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, the party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated.
Present were Professor Joshua Alabi, Alban Sumana Bagbin, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh, Sylvester Mensah and Nurudeen Iddrisu.
“All the former aspirants pledged their full support to President John Dramani Mahama’s bid for the presidency on the party’s ticket,” the statement issued by Mr Asiedu Nketia on Friday said.
“President Mahama in turn indicated his desire to maintain an open door and engage his colleagues on the construction of a formidable electoral platform and campaign strategy for the 2020 elections and beyond.”
