Former Sports Minister under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yammin, has said that he knows all the four members of the party’s vigilante group, Hawks.
Four members of the NDC Hawks are the prime suspects in the sporadic shootings at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters in Kumasi which resulted in the death of one person and injury to another.
Mr. Yammin who was arrested by the Police in Kumasi to assist with investigations on Tuesday stated after his release that, he indeed knows the four persons to be members of the party’s vigilante group, The Hawks.
According to him, he [Yammin] feels very proud to be associated with the said vigilante group despite public condemnation of their activities.
“Yes, I know them (Hawks), they are all NDC members and what is wrong with associating yourself with NDC members…,” he quizzed.
“It was an open place and they were chatting and there was nothing to suggest they were fighting or having any confrontation. I saw the person who pulled the trigger but I have never met him in my life except today. Almost all the faces I met at the place I can say it is just 1 percent whose faces are familiar. But the guy who fired the shots, I was there when the incident happened”, he told the Police.”
Mr Yammin and Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh, former Ejisu-Juaben MCE, were arrested by the Police for questioning after their names were mentioned in connection with the shooting.
While Yammin was arrested after the police was told he knew about the activities of the vigilante group, Mr Ponkoh was arrested for claiming in a radio interview that he saw the men who undertook the sporadic shooting at the NDC headquarters in Kumasi.
