Kufuor’s son joins Ayawaso West Wuogon NPP race

Son of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor, has filed his nomination to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.

The filing of the nomination Sunday marks the political career of the preacher man-cum-actor, who said his focus is to ensure the needs of the people, particularly the youth in the constituency are catered for.

He joins five other NPP members vying for the seat which became vacant in November following the death of Emmanuel Kyerematen Agyarko.

They are expected to face the five-member electoral committee at the party’s headquarters today to be vetted.

Mr. Kufuor who is popularly known as Chief kufuor, explained being in parliament would provide him the platform to cause change and make Ghana a better place.

“I’ve come to appreciate that politics provides a platform like no other to address some of the pressing issues faced by our youth who often have no voice” he stated.

“Through my experiences in life I have had different platforms to address issues that matter in society, and up until now, I have always taken the back seat. But I have realised that the best way to bring about change is by stepping up because if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. There is no middle ground. So based on my own decision and the support and encouragement from my peers (the youth), I decided it was time to stop hiding and step up,” added.

He assured the people he would use his experience in youth advocacy to make sure that the voice of the youth in Ghana is heard.

Mr. Kufour said he will not just speak and highlight problems but get things done, stating “We already know all the problems – let’s fix them”.
