It’s the end of the music year once again and Spotify, the music streaming giant has released the annual analytic report for musicians who are on their platform.
The two big musicians from Ghana who are known for competing over everything, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy clashed and Shatta Wale emerged the victorious.
At the end of the music year, Shatta Wale who released the Reign Album in 2018 had 6 million streams on Spotify. He equally had 582,000 fans from 65 countries around the world who listened to his music. Fans listened to his music 333k hours on Spotify.
Stonebwoy on the other hand who released his last album, The Epistle of Mama in 2017 had 4 million streams of his songs on Spotify this year. He had 327,000 fans listening to his music on the platform from 65 different countries. Stonebwoy enjoyed 246,000 hours streamed by fans.
One person who also enjoyed huge patronage of her music on Spotify this year is Wendy Shay, the Rufftown Records artist.
Wendy Shay’s music on Spotify was streamed 121,000 on the platform, he had 19,000 fans from 48 countries and they streamed for 6,000 hours. That is an impressive mark by a new artist by all standard.
But we need to admit Ghanaian artistes need to do better just like our neighbors, Nigerian artists who recorded higher streams.
