Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi has stated that President Nana Addo lied to the people of Somanya.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the law backing the establishment of the Eastern University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) Act 898 did not include Bunso as one of original campuses.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show he said ‘’ The way Government is handling the Eastern University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) will cause a lot of problems for the country.”
‘’The NDC’s idea was to build the University’s main campus at Somanya and the satellite campus at Donkorkrom but now the government is being discriminatory against the people of Donkorkrom and has moved the satellite campus of the University to Bunso in the Eastern Region,” he added.
According to the NDC, moving the satellite campus to Bunso is a deliberate political decision to site the campus in the home district of the president even though it clearly undermines the principles of Act 898.
The university will, however, offer degree programmes in environmental studies, climate change, urban development, Water Resources Development, Energy Sustainability, Energy Economics and Agriculture.
It will have four undergraduate Schools – the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, the School of Sustainable Development, the School of Agriculture and Agriculture Entrepreneurship and the School of the Built Environment.
