Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah says only money could have enticed a top player from the Ghana league to join a club in Tanzania.
There has been divergent opinion on the Yahaya Mohammed and Samuel Afful’s move to Azam FC in the Tanzania league, which many believe it is a step down in their careers compared to the Ghana league.
This has prompted Yusif Chibsah to assert his opinion on the matter which has waged on for some time now and said that it behoves on the league organizers and club administrators to do a bit more to sustain their best players to make the league competitive.
“What could motivate a player like Yahaya Mohammed to join the Tanzania league. Apart from money, I don’t think there’s nothing more to entice him to play in that league,” Chibsah said on Happy FM.
“I believe the organizers of the league should try and find an antidote to this sickness because I think they could become the future of the senior national team, and playing in those leagues could hamper their chance of getting call-up.”
“I’ll plead with clubs as well to improve on the monetary package to the players because they [players] also take those decisions based on this. It’ll reach a time where the league will not be interesting anymore because I remember the time I joined King Faisal, I didn’t rash to seek for greener pastures until the time I felt it was ripe for me to move out.”
Chibsah deduced, “It’s a reality that things are not like they used to anymore but I’ll plead with the clubs’ administrators to see to the welfare of the players, so that we don’t lose quality players to the Tanzania league and those neighbouring countries.”
