There was a spontaneous eruption of joy in Alexandria after the final whistle as goals from Mohammed Salah and Abdalla El Said posted a 2-0 scoreline against Ghana’s Black Stars in their 2018 World Cup qualifier.
The Stars, who were without inspirational captain Asamoah Gyan, started the game on a high by creating some early chances but veteran Egyptian shot-stopper El Hadary made some stunning saves to keep the scores barren in the early stages.
The Pharaohs got the opener in the 43rd minute against the run of play after Harrison Afful carelessly clipped the heels of Bassin Morsi with Mohammed Salah slotting in the resultant penalty.
The Black Stars came back from recess the more purposeful side but they failed to make their incessant attacks pay and Abdalla El Said punished the Black Stars on the 85th minute mark.
The Stars are languishing at the 3rd position with one point as Egypt grabbed six points from their first two games.
