The sudden U-turn of the former Minister for Trade and Industry under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah to join the last edition of the NDC Unity Walk in Aflao has given the suspicion he is lobbying to be the running mate for his former boss ahead of the 2020 elections.
Dr. Garbrah at a point withdrew from participating in the walk stating that it is not unifying as it should be.
“I have been a vice chairman of the party. When the party wants to undertake an exercise, we sit as a functional executive committee, we sit as a national executive committee and we say, ‘we shall do the following’ and the party will fund it; the party will organize it. Those walks are not currently being organized by the party as NDC.” He once stated.
However at the final NDC Unity Walk organised at Aflao in the Volta Region, Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah made a shocking appearance at the rally making statements which contradicts his earlier assertions.
He stated that ” “These Unity walks have been misinterpreted by our opponents on so many occasions, and we have tried hard to make them understand that these unity walks are so important for so many reasons…We are here to unite our party for 2020…”
National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams disclosed to Accra-based Okay Fm that Spio’s presence was an indirect endorsement of the candidature of John Mahama.
“Though I cannot speak for Mr. Ekow Spio Garbrah who was part of the walk last weekend, I can deduce from his speeches that he might be throwing his support behind the former President, and I urge all other aspirants to do same,” he said.
