Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Thomas Esso says they signed Henry Jay Lamptey to eschew the mistakes of last season.
The club declined overtures from a host of players last season during the transfer window, and with the current trend the team has taken in this off season means they are bent on avoiding the same mistakes after the signing of Henry Lamptey.
“We signed the boy because of what happened last season, whereby we rejected some good players people recommended to us because we thought they were not up to the standard of the premier league. The only player we thought about from division one was Samudeen Ibrahim,” Thomas Esso revealed on Happy FM’s Wamputu sports.
“But it turned out mid-way through the season that we’ve made a mistake by not giving those boys chance to assess them. And even at some point in time, people mocked us because of Abednego Tetteh, and I think they’re right because not him alone, we were offered Joel Fameyeh, Bright Lukman and some other players.”
“Those boys we rejected have gone on to perform well with their various clubs and even some of them are not in the country at the moment.”
“With everything that transpired, this season we decided to assess every player that is brought to us so as we don’t repeat the blunder of last season.”
The player joined the club from Danbort FC after scoring 14 goals in the GN Division One league last season.
