Highlife musician and Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) Rex Omar has revealed that the music industry is saddled with several challenges.
In an interview with Doctar Cann on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra, Rex Omar intimated that, “there are a lot of problems in our music industry”. We started getting artiste managers not long ago in this industry. About 90% of the people we call artiste managers are not really managers. Musicians use most of their managers as errand boys,” he indicated.
He added that ” We should all stand for Ghamro and help them collect and distribute our songs. Ghana have to invest into the creative arts. If we can spend about 10% of the money we splash on football into music, the industry will be better,” he urged.
Rex Omar bemoaned the barrage of criticisms meted hurled at authorities.
“It is unfortunate that, all the blames are directed at Ghamro and Musiga, if you go to South Africa an indigenous investor invested into their music and now they are at the top”.
