The police at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region have arrested three out of five suspected robbers who robbed a group of travellers at gunpoint and also shot a Chinese at a mine site last Tuesday.
The remaining two managed to escape from the robbery scene with all their weapons and the money taken from the victims.
There was no casualty among the victims of the robbery.
The Chinese who was attacked and shot in the right arm at a mine site at Manso Watreso and was admitted to the St Martin’s Hospital at Agroyesum has been treated and discharged.
The Manso Nkwanta District Police Commander, Superintendent Daniel Amoako, who confirmed the incidents to the Daily Graphic, said the police had an early tip off about the robbery.
He said when a police team got to the Manso Nyamebekyere-Ohiampeanika road near Watreso, the five suspects were caught in action robbing their victims.
He said immediately the suspects realised that the police had arrived on the scene, two of them who were fully armed managed to escape with the booty and the weapons they were carrying.
The police were, however, able to arrest the other three who had been placed in police custody, he said.
He said the culprits would soon be put before court.
Supt Amoako indicated that so far his outfit had arrested 49 suspected robbers this year, including the three who were captured.
He said the police were determined to arrest highway robbers and criminals who continued to harass innocent citizens.
“The police are ready to enforce security and so I urge the public to assist them in this regard,” he said.
