The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Adjei Kenneth Gilbert, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the reliable supply of safe water to all Ghanaians by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Addressing Parliament, on Wednesday, March 19, the minister emphasized the vital role of water in national development, describing it as “life” and a critical resource that must be accessible to all.
However, he acknowledged several challenges hindering the water sector, including aging infrastructure, rapid population growth, urbanization and inadequate funding.
Despite these obstacles, he assured the house that the government remains focused on achieving its targets.
“Such challenges do not impede our progress and plans. I will use all the resources available to ensure the sustainable delivery of water supply services to all our communities in Ghana,” he assured.
