Minority Leader demands timeline for Ashanti Regional Council of State election investigation
Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has demanded a clear timeline on the completion of investigations into the disturbances that marred the Ashanti Regional Council of State election on February 11, 2025.
Afenyo-Markin on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, questioned the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on when the investigation would be concluded and when a report would be submitted.
According to him, the issue is of national importance.
He commended the police for their efforts but stressed the need for a definite timeline for the outcome of the probe.
In response, the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated that he had instructed the police administration to provide an update by the end of the month.
However, he could not guarantee when the full investigation would be completed.
“As my colleague may know, I have given the police administration until the end of this month to provide an update.
But as to whether the investigation will be completed by then, I cannot say for certain.
The police are currently reviewing footage from the incident to identify the perpetrators,” he noted.
He explained that the completion of the investigation depended on the ability to locate and apprehend the culprits.
“If you identify someone but cannot find them, how can you set a definite date for completion?” he questioned.
Despite this uncertainty, the Minister assured Parliament that he would share the police update once it is available.
