The Democratic Concerned Youth of Tema West have petitioned the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the exclusion of Romeo Elikplim Akahoho from the shortlist of nominees for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.
In a letter to the party’s headquarters, the group expressed disappointment that Akahoho, a seasoned local governance expert and former Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, was not included in the final selection.
They emphasized his extensive experience, strong working relationship with Tema West MP James Enu, and significant contributions to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections.
The petitioners argued that to ensure district balance, the MCE position should be given to the Adjei-Kojo electoral area, an NDC stronghold that played a crucial role in securing over 5,600 votes for the party’s historic win in Tema West.
They also highlighted Akahoho’s past leadership roles, including serving as Assembly Member for both Klagon and Adjei-Kojo, Chairman of the Tema West Sub-Metropolitan Assembly, and Executive Secretary of the Chamber for Local Governance. He was credited with spearheading efforts to return the collection of property rates to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
The group called on the NDC’s national vetting committee to reconsider its shortlist, warning that any failure to do so could influence their stance in future elections.

THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN,
NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS- HEADQUARTERS,
ADAMA AVE,
ACCRA – GHANA.
Dear Sir,
MCE NOMINEES SHORT – LISTED PETITION :
~~~~~~~
We, (the Democratic Concerned Youths of Tema West) are writing to express our concern regarding the three (3) short – listed Municipal Chief Executive nominees for Tema West without including the very dedicated Local Governance expert, a three term Assembly Member and two term Presiding Member, Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho.
Notwithstanding his excellent relationship with our Tema West MP – Hon. Lawyer James Enu and the level of competency, experience, and leadership skills he has exhibited at all his endeavours, we believe Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho deserves to
be among the nominees short-listed for the national vetting.
As far as district balance is concerned, we believe the Municipal Chief Executive must come from Adjei – Kojo electoral area, which is recognised as the stronghold of NDC Tema West.
This is because statistics have shown that, out of the eleven (11) electoral areas in the Tema West Constituency, his electoral area (Adjei – Kojo) alone successfully helped the NDC Tema West to garnered 5,600 plus votes difference in the 2024 general elections.
This, as a result, contributed to the party’s unprecedented historic victory by winning the Tema West constituency seat for the first time.
Without any hesitation, for your perusal, the following are various local governance departments he has served as a true grassroot man;
1. Branch secretary
2. Assembly Member for Klagon electoral area,
3. Assembly Member for Adjei – Kojo electoral area
4. Chairman Tema West- Sub Metropolitan Assembly
5. Presiding Member – Tema Metropolitan Assembly
6. Parliamentary Aspirant for Tema West
7. Executive Secretary – Chamber for Local Governance to date.
As an Executive Secretary of Chamber for Local Governance, he superintended the reversal of the property rates collections to the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
We do not want to believe this is a strategy to sabotage Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho’s contribution to the development of Tema West, but rather call on the national vetting committee members to revisit the nominees short-listed and include him as one of those who will be vetted at the national level.
With all humility, any attempt to disregard our demand will enforce us to advise ourselves in the elections ahead.
We thank you all for your attention and cooperation.
May God bless our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong.
Godson K. Quarshie
