Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has urged the speaker of Parliament to reconsider the suspension of four MPs and extend leniency.
In a statement on the floor of parliament on Tuesday, he called on the speaker to tamper justice with mercy.
“There have been some incidents that are regrettable. I agree that your decision to suspend some colleagues was timely, and I believe that it has been understood by the generality of Ghanaians as a step to restore the image of this parliament.”
Acknowledging the effectiveness of the Speaker’s actions, Mr. Ayariga stated that the speaker’s actions towards his suspended colleagues was aimed at restoring confidence in parliament by the Ghanaian populace.
He added, “Your actions have achieved their objectives.”
He emphasized that the suspended colleagues are now remorseful and have accepted the decision in good faith.
“Our colleagues are appealing to you to suspend your suspension and reconsider your decision”.
