Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation Designate, has pledged to overhaul Ghana’s sports infrastructure by prioritizing maintenance and investing in new facilities.
His commitment seeks to tackle the country’s long-standing issues with the upkeep of key sporting venues, including the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and Cape Coast Stadium.
During his vetting, Adams explained the need for a stronger maintenance culture, emphasizing that sports facilities should not be allowed to deteriorate due to neglect.
“We are going to improve upon our maintenance culture. We are not going to let the facilities rot. We will ensure that our limited resources are used to maintain the various facilities and build new ones too,” he stated.
The lack of proper maintenance has resulted in structural decay, affecting athlete performance and restricting Ghana’s ability to host international tournaments.
